General

Glad you asked. Here is a quick rundown of hows, whens, and whys!

  • 1880. Salt Water Taffy was invented on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
  • 1893. The Saltair Resort opened on the shores of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It boasted rides, swimming, dining, music, and dancing on what was boasted as “the world’s largest dance floor”. They introduced salt water taffy to their guests. The taffy was pulled and cut by hand. It was an instant hit.
  • 1920. Taffy was mechanized with machinery and they were able to produce more taffy to share with even more guests. There were over 500,000 visitors each year. It was dubbed the “Coney Island of the West”. Traditional flavors of taffy included Vanilla, Chocolate, Licorice, Cinnamon, Banana, Cherry, and Root Beer.
  • 1925. The Saltair Resort caught fire and was destroyed by fire.
  • 1926. A larger and better Saltair (Saltair II) was built and opened to the public. It included a more space for dances and music assemblies. The demand for taffy forced the owners to bring it back.
  • 1927-1960. Hit by the Great Depression, World War II, another small fire, and a drought that left the shoreline a half a mile from the resort, Saltair floundered for decades.
  • 1970. Saltair II caught fire and burned to the ground. For 13 years there was no Saltair to entertain the visitors of the Great Salt Lake.
  • 1983. Once again, Saltair was rebuilt and opened its doors to the public. Unfortunately, right after the building was completed, Northern Utah experienced two years of flooding that caused the Great Salt Lake to rise to levels that cut off access roads to Saltair and flooded the building. The main pavilion was buried under five feet of water. Eventually the Governor installed massive pumps to send the water to the west desert but Saltair was closed for 10 years.
  • 1993. Our owner purchased the Saltair Resort and reopened its doors to the public. It was primarily used as a concert venue and has seen performances from artists ranging from Bob Dylan to Kesha. Our owner not only opened the doors for concerts but he also reopened a concessions stand that brought Salt Water Taffy back to those hallowed shores.
  • 1998. Taffy Shop sets up a website on what was called the “internet” in the hopes of sharing its taffy with more people around the world.
  • 2000. Sales on the internet exceed sales from the concession stand. Taffy Shop relocates to a larger space and begins full-time shipping operations.
  • Today. Taffy Shop has produced millions of pieces of taffy and now offers over 80 flavors of gourmet taffy. Our taffy has gone from the shores of the Great Salt Lake to the shores of the internet. The waves of the internet have allowed us to share smiles with people from countries all around the world. Deservedly so, we have people that specifically seek us out for our taffy and claim that it is the best in the world. It took persistence through several fires, several wars, floods, droughts, and dogged perseverance, but over a century of experimentation and customer feedback, we proudly boast that we offer the best taffy in the world.

We’ve been selling taffy for over 20 years and people always ask us why our taffy is so good. We tell them the same thing every time. It’s the nostalgic memories that take you back when you unwrap it. The smile that comes from enjoying the simplicity of our mouthwatering treat. That is what makes our taffy so good.

Take a look at our most recent flavor guide. Please note that some newer flavors may not appear in the flavor guide. You can always find available flavors here.

  • 1/2lb = 30 pieces
  • 14oz = 50 pieces
  • 1lb = 60 pieces
  • 2lb = 120 pieces
  • 5lb = 300 pieces

No! Taffy Shop Saltwater Taffy is completely free of peanuts, tree nuts, and other nuts. So are our manufacturing facilities. Any of our taffy flavors that contains the word "nut," like Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Macadamia Nut, and Chocolate Peanut Butter, are made with flavoring only, NO ACTUAL NUTS of any kind.

This does change, but we sell a lot of the following: Banana Dream, Sweet Peppermint, Wild Watermelon, Very Vanilla, Crazy Cotton Candy, Birthday Cake Cake, Fresh Strawberry, Rad Raspberry, Black Licorice, and Caramel Apple.

To make the tastiest taffy imaginable we start with only the best ingredients, including proprietary flavor formulas from industry-leading flavor scientists (is that really their title? We're not 100% sure, but what we do know is their results are second-to-none). Then we utilize our patented 24-Hour whipping process to create the softest, lightest, fluffiest, and most consistent saltwater taffy you can buy.

Simply put, we want our taffy to taste just as soft and fresh for you as the day it was made.

Our Original Saltwater taffy includes: corn syrup, sugar, coconut oil, sea salt, egg whites, evaporated milk, cocoa, malic acid, citric acid, sunflower lecithin, titanium dioxide, natural and artificial flavor, artificial color (including FD&C blue 1, red 2, red 3, red 40, yellow 5, yellow 6).

Shipping & Returns

We pack and ship the majority of orders within 48 business hours. Shipping times are based on the size and location of your order. Domestic orders typically take 2-7 business days. We do our very best to get orders out as quickly as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about shipping before or after placing an order please reach out to us by email or phone.

Above all else, we want satisfied customers! When you receive your shipment, please take a moment to inspect your order and contact us if you have received defective, damaged, or incorrect items so we can work out an exchange or refund.

To start a return, or for any questions about your order, please contact us at hello@taffyshop.com. If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return unfortunately cannot be accepted.

You probably know that shipping costs continue to rise, affecting many small-business owners such as ourselves. We know how much our customers dislike paying hefty shipping fees...and we feel the same.

So we do our very best to keep shipping costs to an absolute minimum. The least expensive shipping option (so inexpensive in fact, it is FREE) is to purchase at least $50 worth of taffy in your order. Larger orders like this allow us to absorb the shipping costs and give you the best deal possible. After all, it is tough to beat free!

Additionally, all standard orders under $50 are available for a flat rate of $5.

Yes, we do. We take pride in offering affordable standard shipping options. All orders above $50 are shipped for FREE via standard shipping.

If you need something a little quicker though, we do offer expedited options. Exact costs vary depending on your location and the shipping option chosen. This is not a profit center for us though, we simply pass the cost we pay to you.

Wholesale

You need to be a legitimate business with an Employer Identification Number and State Sales Tax ID. You will need to submit an application. In addition, you will need to agree to and follow our resale policies.

Click here to fill out the online application or to here to print an application. If printed, please email the application to wholesale@taffyshop.com

At our core, we are the owners of a business that we believe in. With that, we want to support your business that you believe in. We have partnered with hundreds of businesses over the years and are looking for continued growth with top notch businesses. Our team will review your application and get a response back to you within 1-2 business days.

No, we don’t offer any exclusive territories but don’t worry, most people don’t know where to find salt water taffy. Most have never tried gourmet salt water taffy.

Yes, as long as you follow our resale policies. Most of our wholesale accounts have a physical location (brick and mortar store) and their own website. We closely monitor major marketplaces (Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Jet, etc.) and will shut down stores who violate our policies.

We gladly accept all major credit cards and you can pay through your private wholesale portal online. For larger accounts we will consider offering terms. This credit application can be submitted for review.

This is exciting. Twenty years ago we only accepted orders via fax or by phoning in. We then started accepting orders via email. Now, we have a secure online wholesale portal that is specific to you and your business. You can order online, access your order history, pay online, see the latest offerings or the newest flavors, and get insights into what is working for businesses similar to yours. Once your application is approved, we will set up your personalized portal for you.

We boast some of the fastest order processing times in the business (usually within 1-2 business days). We also sell tons (literally) of taffy every month, so our inventory is fresh and we continually monitor our stock levels to keep just enough on-hand to ship out orders quickly.

All orders ship from our Utah warehouse. Domestic ship transit times can vary from 1-7 days depending on your location and the carrier selected.

For our larger clients, we do offer the ability to order custom bags and even custom flavors of taffy. Please be aware that the Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ’s) usually start at a minimum of 5,000 bags of taffy. There are also design fees, printing plate charges, and custom stocking fees. Most custom offerings require 4-8 weeks for the first shipment and up to 3-4 weeks for subsequent shipments.

We charge you only the actual shipping costs. Paying shipping costs are a frustrating, but necessary evil. It is amazing to us that, not too long ago, you had to come to the shores of the Great Salt Lake to get our taffy. There was even a steam engine train that would carry you from Salt Lake City out to the concession stand at the lake. Today, it is amazing how we can ship an order from our warehouse and it will arrive at your door just a short time after. Planes, semi-trucks, delivery trucks are much faster than the old steam engine train. We use UPS, FedEx, USPS for our smaller case shipments, and trucking companies for our pallet and truckload shipments. Because of our volume, we have negotiated some great rates and pass those savings on to you.

Yes, we can use your shipper numbers for UPS or FedEx. You are also welcome to schedule your own LTL and Truckload shipments with the freight companies.

In the wholesale customer portal you can see what those costs will be for most shipments. For larger shipments (pallets & truckloads) we will advise you of the cost once we have received the shipping quotes back from the carriers.

Absolutely, we can help out. We can set separate store locations in your wholesale portal and you can choose what goes where.

Because you are ordering larger volumes, we do offer significant discounts to our wholesale customers. Discounts vary depending on the quantity of taffy that you order from us. Our discount tiers are broken up by Case Volume, Pallet Volume, and Truckload Volume.

We do not set an MSRP. That is up to our Wholesale Customers to decide based on what makes sense for their business model.

Each product has a MAP that must be followed. We have established our MAP policies to protect our Wholesale Customers and business owners. Our taffy is amazing and we want you to earn your customer’s taffy business through amazing service and value instead of getting in price wars with other retailers.

Yes ! We love working with great brokers and agents. Please contact us at wholesale@taffyshop.com to see if we go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Yes, we currently work with several distributors in the US. However, we are looking to grow our distributor network. Contact us for distributorship opportunities.

We’ve been selling taffy for a long time. We have created our flavors, assortments, and bags to fly off of the shelves. Our recommendation is to stick with those options; however, we also realize that there is a time and a place for a custom offering. Our in-house designers can create custom bags for your business. Those services larger MOQ’s (5,000+ bags) and have several extra fees that usually average about $1,000 (print plates, design fees, custom proofing, press checks, etc.).

We currently offer over 80 gourmet flavors and usually introduce 1-2 new flavors each year. If you have a unique flavor in mind, please contact us and we’ll see if our flavoring experts can help out. Please be aware that custom flavors have additional fees, require higher MOQ’s, and can have significant lead times.

Yes! We have the equipment to mix flavors to your heart’s content. Packaging can be a little tricky though and you may need to order custom packaging that reflects the custom assortment that you have created. Please contact us for further details and we can discuss solutions with you.

All of our retail bags come in resealable stand up pouches that can sit on a shelf, hang from peg, or sit on counter. Those bags come with barcodes that should work with your Point of Sale system. When buying bulk or “loose” taffy we suggest displaying it in airtight containers or bins.

Unfortunately, we don’t. In all honesty, the customer feedback over the years is that they prefer the taffy from our retail bags as it stays fresher.

Approximately 6-8 months from the production date as long as it is stored in an airtight container.

The best way to store the taffy is in your customer’s belly. But storage at your store should be at room temperature. Don’t allow the taffy to freeze or get too hot. Also, the resealable bags protect the taffy from drying out in arid environments or getting too sticky in humid environments.

Yes, we do! But your packaging may need to be adjusted to reflect your custom assortment.

It stands for Electronic Data Interchange and is used by large retailers to electronically place orders with ease and with visibility to our on-hand stock. We proudly partner with Crossfire EDI and can integrate with most large retailers. Note that we may charge a $2,000 setup fee to integrate with your company.
